The Power of a Simple Design Idea

Governor Tim Kaine is a serious leader. But he’s also a fun guy. Thing is that when he’s being serious, sometimes his eyebrow is “uncontrollable” (his words, not ours!). So when he needed a new branding idea for the Democratic National Convention, we thought he’d get a laugh out of this.

NBC’s Andrea Mitchell thought it was funny enough to include in her Tim Kaine interview last night on MSNBC. And John Stewart got a laugh (and a button) out of it on the Daily Show:

UPDATE: The t-shirts made it into the Virginia delegation shots during the speech coverage, and the smiley eyebrow face also appeared in…

The Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk): “Kaine’s likeness is portrayed on a humorous political pin being circulated this week: It’s a smiley face with an inverted V over one of the eyes, depicting the governor’s ever-twitching eyebrow.

“His mother, Kathy Kaine, can’t get enough of the pins to take back to her friends in Overland Park, Kan. ‘I just love them,’ she said.”

The Washington Post/Chris Cillizza’s “The Fix”: “BEST GIVEAWAY: Politicians who poke fun at themselves are endlessly endearing. As a self-professed fan of Gov. Tim Kaine’s infamous eyebrow arch, how could we pass up this button being circulated by the Virginia governor’s political action committee.”

UPDATE #2: Here’s Andrea Mitchell talking to Gov. Kaine about the button:
